Update

Recently, our group have been planning our design for our magazine front cover, contents page and double page article. Also, we have been taking our photos we need at photoshoots. I have taken all of the images i will need and i am now in the process of editing them in photoshop, and then i will import them into Indesign. Using Indesign, my group and i have been discussing the background colour, the fonts of the masthead and the colour and size of it. We came up with four fonts that we all liked, then we asked the audience to pick the font that stood out to them most. The results proved that we are going to use the Elegant font as it is simple but also it is very bold and stands out. Our background is black as it links in with our hybrid genre-jazz and pop-as black links in with jazz and the colours will stand out boldy linking with pop. The background also makes the masthead stand out and is very clear. For the masthead, we started with the title in white but thought it looked too basic so we added a shadow of the masthead in lilac. The white and lilac colours link in with the pop element of the magazine. I am now in the process of annotating my flatplans and will upload them as soon as i have completed them. We have also decided on who is going to be featured in our issues. In each issue, on the double page article, we have decided to do an interview with the main cover star persona but also on that page will feature lyrics to their songs that we have made up ourselves. We made the lyrics sound like they could be part of a pop and jazz song. Furthermore on the article, we will all create a CD cover of the artist at the bottom of the page, advertising their music which is what you often see in many music magazines.

Masthead result

This is the result from our magazine name optons. The names we came up with all had meanings and elements of being different and emerging together because of our hybrid genre. Our chosen masthead is :Diverse. We can make this name appear on the magazine as in your face and straight to the point as the name is short and snappy.

Slogan result

As our group are creating a hybrid magazine of a mixture of the genres pop and jazz, we needed a slogan that would allow the readers to know about this. The audience research shows that out finished slogan is: Japoppin for the first time. It sounds musical and is unique. We decided to pla with words that sounded different so we could create a new genre.

What I have been up to recently

As i have now finished the preliminary task, i have moved onto the music magazine task. In this task, we have to work together in a group to produce magazines although we each have to make a magazine separately with element suiting the genre and keeping the house style the same. Recently, my group and i have put together a questionnaire for our series of magazines. The previous slides that have been posted are of different music tribes and videos that are of this genre for my music research.

Making my front cover

Making an original logo for my school took quite a long time as i used many shapes, shadows, backgrounds and had to find the right font to use. I stuck to my original house style of purple and red and the shapes of the trees are suitable to the name of the school, 'Ivy Meadows'.
As many magazines have a bottom strip, i added one so the page looks spread out and adds more variety that attracts the audience. The font i used for the lead story title was 'Microdot' which again fits in with the creativeness of the house style that i thought of. I underlined this title so the lead story is easily recognisable to the readers. I changed the colour of the issue number and date because this section does not appear inside the actual magazine. As i used a bottom strip, i made the sub heading title bigger which was a positive move because it is quite a long title.

I included more of the articles down on the side as there was space there and also added the issue number and date so the readers know it is the most recent issue. I did not add a barcode because my school magazine is free and is not sold in shops. The colours i chose are feminine as my target audience and school is aimed at girls but is also informative to the parents.

From the last screenshot, i added the second image that is obviously smaller than the main image because it is a sub feature but is an article that is specially advertised through the image.

This screenshot shows the titles of the other stories and other texts. I used 'Hobo Standard' to write about the sub headings as it fitted the house style as it looks a bit like the masthead font that is bubbly and creative. I had to move the text and image around to make the positioning perfect. I tried out backgrounds on some of the chosen images although i didn't use them because it make the magazine look unreal and fake so i didn't use any backgrounds at all as i wanted my magazine to look as realistic as it could.

Firstly, tried to make my background have a gradient and decided to pick purple and white because those were my colour scheme as well as red that i used for the masthead. I used the font 'Trendy' for the title because i wanted a creative, bubbly font that would attract females and the students as it is fun and eye catching. Also, i added a shadow on 'Communicate' that would stand out and makes it look interesting. My main image has a shadow on her that highlights the image to make it stand out even more. It takes up most of the page so it is recognisable as to what the lead story is about.
